Public Works Apprentice - Superior, Nebraska

The City of Superior seeks a full-time apprentice in Public Works, specifically Water, Wastewater and Streets.  The successful applicant will rotate among the three departments training in the various skills and knowledge necessary to be success in each department.  Upon a vacancy, this applicant will be placed in the vacancy.

Duties include, but are not limited to, maintenance and operation of the wastewater plant; maintenance, operation and repair of the water wells, including the water treatment facilities; maintenance, operation and repair of the water and wastewater mains, including manholes, valves, and fire hydrants; plus the associated pumps, filters, pressure tanks and storage facilities; maintain and operate communications and supervisory telemetering gear and participate in daily rounds, lab sampling, maintain logs, records and meter reading.

Duties also include operating light and heavy equipment, including bio-solid transport equipment, backhoe, jack hammer, motor grader, loader and dump trucks, plowing snow, digging and hauling materials, including pavement and downed trees and branches, helping place concrete and repaving streets and all other duties as assigned.

Wastewater plant, municipal water system and/or equipment maintenance and operation related experience and knowledge is desirable.  Basic knowledge of machinery is desirable.  Have or can obtain Class 2 Wastewater license, Grade 4 Water Operator license and Nebraska Commercial Driver’s License.

Minimum requirements include high school diploma, ability to speak and read English fluently, wear protective gear, including hearing protection, gloves and protective footwear, climbing in and out of holes, able to climb ladders, work with machinery, go into enclosed spaces, lift up to 50 pounds routinely and 125 pounds occasionally and a valid Nebraska Commercial Driver’s License within thirty days.

Upon training, applicant will participate in rotating on-call.  The selected applicant must pass a police background check, a pre-employment physical, and pre-employment and random drug tests.

Police Officer - City of Superior

The City of Superior is accepting applications for a full-time Police Officer. Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen, 21 years of age, and have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Requirements: Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification is preferred but all applicants will be considered. Ability to meet the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center qualifications for certification. Ability to work various shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends. Valid Driver’s License with minimal traffic violations.
