Sites and Activities

Victorian Capital of Nebraska

In 1992, the Nebraska State Legislature actually declared Superior the Victorian Capital of Nebraska. So, Victorian architecture and ornately decorated homes are commonplace in Superior. If you find yourself admiring a home with a historical marker in the yard, you’ve found one of the many Victorian homes throughout town.

Vestey Festival

Each Memorial Weekend, Superior hosts its annual Victorian Festival to honor the memory of Evelyn Brodstone Vestey, the daughter of Superior’s first store owner who later went on to become the world’s highest-paid businesswoman and a member of British Nobility. The weekend is filled with many family activities including the area’s largest parade.

Nuckolls County Museum

To learn more about the history of Superior and Nuckolls County visit the Nuckolls County Museum located at 612 E 6th. The Nuckolls County Historical Society operates a complex of eight buildings including the first Post Office to serve Superior (a log cabin), the oldest church in Nuckolls County and Marquardt Hall, which is filled with a large and unique collection of hand-carved model airplanes.

Outdoor Recreation

For the hunting or fishing enthusiast, the Superior area offers abundant wildlife filled with excellent wild game. Many animals inhabit the area; deer and wild turkeys are plentiful and with Nuckolls County located in the central flyway, there is an abundance of birds present during their annual migration. And just 10 minutes south of Superior is Lovewell State Park and Lake – 1160 acre State Park adjacent to a 3000 surface acre reservoir.

If you prefer hiking, biking, canoeing or four wheeling, the adventure can be found in or near Superior. Or if you like to run, schedule your visit over the 4th of July and participate in the Firecracker Run followed by an evening fireworks display. You can also participate in the Superior Pool Triathlon (Superior’s municipal public pool is the seventh largest municipal pool in Nebraska) in August.

Golf

Superior’s golf course is a well-manicured nine-hole grass green with numerous trees surrounding the design. After a few rounds, you will appreciate the newly constructed Superior Country Club, which serves as the gathering place for post-round celebrations and other events.

Superior Estates Winery is one of the Midwest’s premium wineries. It can host your special event or just you and a friend for the afternoon. Located at 200 W. 15th, don’t miss it!
